Hi there, are you using your computer to store home movies, download movie trailer or to watch videos from an online store? Instead of being confined to the computer in your den, why not play your movies, videos on a larger screen in the comfort of your living room?

With the help of Windows Media Player , you can stream video from your computer over your home network to a Xbox360, Apple TV or other digital media receiver (DMR) that is connected to your home theater or TV. And you can also make your video library available to other computers in your home.

What you need

1. A WindowsXP or WindowsVista based computer running Windows Media Player 11
2. A Xbox360 or other DMR capable of video and audio playback or a network-connected TV
3. A home network (either wired or wireless)
4. Speakers (either standalone-powered speakers, or speakers that are connected to your existing home stereo system, home theater, or network-connected TV)

Setting up your system

Follow these basic steps to set up your home network to play movies throughout your home. For more details about setting up your device, see the instructions that come with your DMR or network-connected TV.

1. Start Windows Media Player 11 on your computer. (If you're running WindowsVista, you already have Player 11. If you're running WindowsXP, be sure you have Player 11 installed.)
2. Connect a DMR to your home network, and then connect the DMR to your TV and home stereo or home theater system.
3. -or-
4. Connect a network-connected TV to your home network.
5. Use Windows Media Player 11 to turn on media sharing and choose the digital video files on your computer that you want to share with your DMR. Get steps for setting up the Player on WindowsXP or WindowsVista
6. Use the appropriate remote controls on the DMR to select the video files that you want to play.
